From training camp: Afternoon thoughts

August 01, 2007 |

One of the biggest pluses to getting to cover the Ravens during training camp is when you get to see the guys off of the football field.

Coming out the team cafeteria is where the video games are. The games range from Monopoly pinball, to a race car driving game, and my personal favorite NBA Showtime.

NBA Showtime is the game where guys become “on fire” after hitting a couple of shots in a row, and you can jump from the other end of the court and dunk the ball.

However the most popular and almost always occupied game is Golden Tee Golf. Speaking of which, check out the contest on the website that we are having with Golden Tee Live. That game at the Ravens training complex usually has a nice line of players waiting to play it. You can usually walk by and see Jonathan Ogden, Matt Stover, Todd Heap, plus many, many others waiting for their turn to get on the game. Brent Harris of Comcast Sportsnet is usually waiting to play also,

I will admit that I was beaten pretty badly by Brent a couple of year ago…..so there Brent I gave you your props.

I mentioned this yesterday, but it is also happening today. Hard Knocks from the Ravens is replaying on NFL Network. Matt Stover was just here a few minutes ago watching the show and commenting on how long ago it seemed. The episode that was on was when the game was canceled in Philadelphia due to the turf being unsafe.

Will be back after the 4 p.m. practice.

From training camp: Afternoon thoughts

July 31, 2007 |

The Ravens are getting ready for special teams practice this afternoon; it has been a interesting afternoon around the team hotel.

Chris McAlister has the same type of truck that Jamal Lewis had last year that was featured on Comcast Sportsnet last year. The big red fire truck as we referred to it around here at the facility. Chris said that it cost about $325.00 to fill the truck up, and when the people that made it were driving it from California to Baltimore; they only had to stop twice to get gas.

In the lobby of the team hotel, the NFL Network is on, and right now the Baltimore Ravens Hard Knock series is on. It is interesting to see guys walk by and look up at the tv while they are walking out the door, and see a young Todd Heap or Chris McAlister.
Several members of the media were watching it this afternoon, and commenting on how different everyone looks and how long ago that seems.

Off to watch special teams practice to see how the early competition between Yamon and BJ Sams is going.
