Future of Baltimore Area College Soccer Part 2

March 22, 2008 |

The second Dean of college soccer here in Baltimore is Towson University Head Men’s Soccer Coach Frank Olszewski. Coach Olszewski will be entering his 26th year as the head man at Towson this upcoming season.

I grew up in the same neighborhood as Frank Olszewski and played high school ball with his brother Danny. He was a legend in our neighborhood!! I was lucky enough to play on the same team with him with the Post 38 Unlimited Team. What a Team!!! But that is another story!!

Frank was a star at every level of soccer. From Patapsco to Johns Hopkins to an alternate on the US Olympic Team. As the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Towson University Coach Olszewski has become the winningest coach in their history. He has compiled a 225-176-36 record over the past 25 years.

Coach Olszewski has always been one to recruit heavily local Baltimore/Washington area players. This talent has helped him receive 2 league Coaches of the Year honors, 4 league championships and 8 times his teams were in conference championship games.

Frank is a member of the Greater Dundalk Sports Hall of Fame and the Maryland Soccer Hall of Fame. He has sent several of his players to the pro level; the lastest being Pat Healey.

With the additions of College of Southern Maryland Junior College All-American Guilharme Costa and high school players Steven LeVine of Loyola and Joshua Spivey of Perry Hall the Towson Tigers will have 14 area players on this season’s roster. Again they will be a strong team that will challenge for their league title this year.
