Giants vs. Packers Preview

January 11, 2012 | Michael Schwartz

The Giants travel to Lambeau after beating the Falcons without allowing a touchdown. This week they face one of the best offenses in the NFL. The Green Bay Packers went 15-1 on the year and had one of the most productive offenses. Even though they didn’t have the NFL’s leading passer or the league’s leading rusher, they were still unstoppable.

The Giants also have a good offense. Eli Manning had his best year of his career and can be considered a top five quarterback this year. He has great receivers to throw to, Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks. Both receivers had over 1000 yards receiving. Nicks has great hands and great route running, and Cruz is fast and also has good hands.

The Giants also have a good running game. They have two good running backs, Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs. Bradshaw is fast and agile while Jacobs is powerful. Both guys are going to have to have good games if they want to win. The Giants don’t have as strong of a passing attack as the Packers, so the run will be very important.

The Packers offense is going to try to throw the ball on the Giants defense. However, they have to protect Rodgers from Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyora, and Jason Pierre-Paul. The Packers must stop the four man rush or they will have no chance in this game. These guys have disrupted quarterbacks all year, and I think it will continue.

The Packers running game is not great but not awful. They are inconsistent with their running game because their passing game is so good. They have not had to worry about that, but in this game they will need to run the ball to win the game. Their passing attack will not be as efficient this week, so they need to run the ball well.

The Packers defense has to play well. They have not been great at preventing yards but they are very good at getting interceptions. The Packers must get takeaways in order to win this game. Clay Matthews needs to pressure Manning to make him throw the ball where the Packers can get the interceptions. They need to stop the run and that starts with B.J Raji. He has to have a big game if they want to win this game.

Prediction: 31-21 Giants
