The event takes place one day after the 29th anniversary of DeCinces’ famous game-winning homerun that is credited for beginning “Orioles’ Magic” in the 1970s. The two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Orioles a 6-5 victory over Detroit on June 22, 1979 at Memorial Stadium and sent the Orioles to their first World Series appearance in eight years. DeCinces played fifteen seasons with the Orioles, Angels and Cardinals. He was drafted and began his Major League Baseball (MLB) career with the Orioles in 1973 and took over the starting third base position from Brooks Robinson in 1976. In nine seasons with the Baltimore, DeCinces batted .253 and hit 107 home runs.
