O’s first baseman/DH/underachiever Aubrey Huff fired an interesting salvo last night during a nationally syndicated radio show.
When asked about Charm City and his first season in an O’s uniform, Huff remarked, "Baltimore is a horses**t city."
Yep, you’re probably laughing like I was and saying to yourself, "there’s no way he actually said that." Well, he did.
Speaking of "horses**t", did anyone see Aubrey’s stats from 2007? $8 million a year for a cat to hit 15 HR’s, 72 RBI’s and .280? For $8 mil, I’d say that borders on "horses**t", wouldn’t you?
The only question now…what will the O’s stance be on this faux pas by Huff?
Will they just brush it off with one of those, "well, Aubrey is a guy who speaks his mind a lot."? Or, as they should, will they bring him in and throw a sheet of paper in front of him and say, "List the 10 teams you’d like us to trade you to and we’ll do our best for you."?
I’ve got three words to sum up the situation:
"See ya, Aubrey."
UPDATE: We spent a great deal of time this morning trying to find the audio uplink for the show Huff appeared on last night, but we can’t find it anywhere. Obviously, we would have played it on the air today (minus the word "s**t") if we could have found it and then been able to download it for on-air play.
Anyone who heard the interview on Thursday can verify that Huff came across as arrogant, to say the least, and that matches the type of behavior I saw from him firsthand during my limited interaction with him at Camden Yards during the 2007 season. He’s just a dude that’s not very nice to people. I don’t know any other way to put it. He’s a nasty, stand-offish kind of guy. If you like ‘em that way, he’s your man.
Huff’s comments on Thursday night were part of a Sirius radio show from the Tampa area hosted by "Bubba The Love Sponge". The content of the show and the interview with Huff contained a variety of discussion points, including strippers, alcohol, baseball, Huff’s $8 million contract and the city of Baltimore.
I think the gang at WNST are still working on trying to come up with the sound from the interview.
One final note: I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that Huff thinks Baltimore is a horses**t city…after all, he plays for a team that goes out of its way to avoid being connected with BALTIMORE in any way possible. Maybe it all makes sense?
