It’s football season, my friends!

September 09, 2009 | Paul Hoke

It’s here. It’s finally here. All these months of waiting. After enduring training camp, and the preseason, the world is finally good again. The NFL regular season is upon us. And not a moment too soon.

Forget that our hometown baseball joke may lose 100 games this year. Forget the problems that you may have with the wife, girlfriend, or both, the kids, job, whatever….it’s football season!

When the hated Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Tennessee Titans tomorrow night, it will once again be the beginning of my favorite time of year. Gone are the 100 degree days, along with the 8PM sunsets and the meaningless games played by those O’s from Camden Yards. Give me 30 degrees, snow, a 4:30 PM sunset, and NFL football, and I will be the happiest man in the world. That, my friends, is my favorite time of the year! That of course leads the conversation to your 2009 Baltimore Ravens!

In the interest of full disclosure, the Ravens, my favorite team of all time, are not the only team I will be rooting for this year. In the NFC, the Seattle Seahawks have drawn my attention, for reasons that I can not get into at the moment, but will be divulged in due time. Anyway, back to the Ravens. What a difference a year makes. Not going to look back to what we were thinking last year. Instead, I’m going to look forward to what we can expect from our Ravens this year. If they stay healthy, always a factor for any team, I can see this team once again competing for a shot at the Super Bowl. Keep Joe Cool upright, stay healthy on defense, and find the right mix in the running game, and I see a berth in Miami in late January. I will give my official 2009 NFL predictions tomorrow. but for now, I ask you to bask with me, in the light that is….NFL football. It’s wayyyyy to long between the last game, and the first.

Go Ravens!!! Come on, Sunday!
