Izturis to undergo emergency appendectomy in Oakland

June 06, 2009 | WNST Staff

Just after Friday night’s 9-1 loss in Oakland the Orioles announced that shortstop Cesar Izturis was to undergo an emergency appendectomy that will land him on the disabled list sometime on Saturday.

Izturis reported to the stadium Friday night with stomach pains and was a late scratch. Robert Andino replaced him the lineup and went 0-for-3 in a 9-1 loss to the A’s.

The Orioles have three potential replacements in the organization, if they choose to put Izturis on the DL: Jolbert Cabrera (.247, three homers, 25 RBIs) at Norfolk, light-hitting Carlos Rojas (.160, six RBIs) and Melvin Dorta (.300, one homer, four RBI’s).

We’ll send a WNST Text out when we know who the call up will be later on Saturday.
