Maryland goes dancin’ – gets Cal in NCAA opener

March 15, 2009 | Drew Forrester

It turns out that win over Wake Forest on Friday night was all Maryland needed.

For only the 2nd time in 5 seasons, the Terps (10-seed) are headed to the NCAA tournament, where they will face 7-seed California in Kansas City, MO.

It’s a fair – if not favorable – match-up for Maryland, as they finished the year below .500 in their conference and reasonably couldn’t expect much more than a 10-seed.

Should Maryland win on Thursday, they’ll take on #2 Memphis (assuming they win their opener) on Saturday.
