No matter what the tournament selection committee decides to do with Gary Williams and Company tomorrow, Maryland – and Baltimore – will be represented in the NCAA tournament.
Morgan State is going to the big dance.
The Bears got double-digit scoring efforts from four different players tonight and Todd Bozeman’s team earned their NCAA berth with a 83-69 win over Norfolk State in the MEAC championship game in Winston-Salem, NC. A year ago, Morgan State lost in the MEAC Final to Coppin State.
Jermaine “Itchy” Bolden poured in 18 points tonight as Morgan State finished the year with a 14-3 mark in the MEAC and a 23-11 record overall. One of those wins, of course, came at the Comcast Center in January when the Bears knocked off Maryland.
In Saturday’s MEAC final, Morgan State fell behind, 10-2, nearly 7 minutes into the game before rallying to lead at the half, 32-27. The Bears quickly jumped out to a double-digit lead at the start of the second half and were never threatened from there.
Reggie Holmes (20), Marquise Kately (16) and Kevin Thompson (15) joined Itchy Bolden in double-figures for Morgan State.
