Navy Makes It Three of the Last Four

October 23, 2010 | Marty Mossa

In 1963 the Midshipment of the Naval Academy under the leadershiop of Roger Staubach beat the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.  After that year, Notre Dame beat Navy thirty three years in a row.  It wan’t until 2007 that Navy broke their losing streak to the Fighting Irish in an overtime thriller.  The final was 46-44.  After losing to Notre Dame in 2008, the Naval Academy won in 2009.  They handily beat Notre Dame today at the new Giant Stadium by the score of  35-17.

Perhaps the tide has turned.  Perhaps we’ll never see a lopsided string of victories over the Naval Academy again.  I was fortunate to attend a Navy Notre Dame game in 1986 at old Memorial Stadium.  Unfortunately Navy got walloped in that game by a score of 33-14.

The Middies are 6-2.  Congratulation at the Middies.  Contiinue your success.  And please beat Army on December the 11th.
