New Blood In NHL’s Conference Finals

May 13, 2011 | Marty Mossa

This year’s NHL Conference Finals have some fresh faces.  Of the four teams still standing, only one has won a Stanley Cup within the last seven years.  The Tampa Bay Lightening who dispatched the Washington Capitals in the last round in fours game; won the Cup in 2004.  They will play the Boston Bruin in the Eastern Conference Finals who took care of Philadelphia in four.  Boston hasn’t won a cup in 39 year (1972).  Number three seed Boston will host the Bolts tomorrow night in Boston at 8pm on VS.

In the Western Conference Finals; two teams that have never won a cup will face off.  The Vancouver Canucks (#1 seed) will play the San Jose Sharks (#2) for the right to play Boston or Tampa Bay in the finals.  Vancouver has been in two previous cup finals.  In 1982 they dropped four straight to the New York Islander, and in 1994 they lost in seven to the New York Rangers.  San Jose has never been to a final series.  Whatever happens, it will be an interesting next couple of week in the NHL.
