A few short days a go, John Harbaugh took a handful of players down the the battlefield at Gettysburg, much like the scene in the movie “Remember the Titans.” Harbs wanted to teach the team about war and sacrifice. This field trip created a t shirt that donned the words ” Fix Bayonets.”
In any battle, there will be casualty and there will be the wounded survivors. Much like the battle at Gettysburg, any sport yields losses and injury, especially the game of football. The Ravens have suffered their first 2013 season casualty, Dennis Pitta. Terrell Suggs once quoted, …. ” you can’t leave home without him!” The Ravens will have to be without one of Flacco’s favorite targets in Pitta.
Going up for a jump ball, Dennis Pitta came down and suffered what was at first thought to be a minor hip dislocation. After surgery, it was found to be a hip fracture and season ending for the uprising tight end. Major blow for the Ravens, and who knows how this will affect Pitta long term.
Blink the eyes, that is how fast a season outlook can change. Last season, we overcame injuries to Suggs, Lewis, and Webb. What happened?! Well, glory happened! A second championship happened! Is the season lost? No! Are the critics going to be heard louder? Maybe. Next man up! Now, Ed Dickson needs to step up and show why we drafted him.
We will overcome. We will fight. Next man up! As Ray preached last season, no weapon formed will prosper. Fix the bayonets. Time to go to work. Play like a Raven. Next man up!
