NPV Girls Soccer Making the Coach Proud

February 03, 2008 |

No we are not the Baltimore Bays, Bethesda, or other elite soccer program just a recreational soccer program looking to teach kids the basics. The basics about soccer, life, commitment, having a passion for Futbal.

This week 2 of the 3 teams I coach for NPV (North Point Village) took part in their scheduled matches. This past Monday my U-12 squad took the field minus 4 players who had the flu and 1 player who was injured. These players who were MIA have experience and good technical skill. Missing them was really gonna put us behind the 8 ball so to speak but; surprise, surprise, surprise, the little engine that could got started. We played a more physical older team and we had many legitimate u-10 players playing up and many first year players who had to play most of the game. In the end we tied 7-7 in a game we could have lost 10-1. I had two of my regulars who played all 48 minutes and they were incredible. The rest of the players including my goalie who was in action for just her third game played awesome. In all they showed me what the spirit of competition is all about.

Tonight my U-14 team played and they had “0” substitutes. I challenge all my adult readers to go out and play indoor soccer for 48 straight minutes. Go ahead I’ll wait. Oh take your phone you’ll need to dial 911 as you pass out about 5 minutes into your sprints. We allowed the first goal but then scored the next two to lead 2-1. The other team which had several substitutes ultimately scored the tieing and go ahead goals to win 3-2. My team which only has 2-3 subs on a normal basis dug down deep. I tell you all this in my blog because I know as a coach we value when our team overcomes adversity. Even though our young people are sometimes criticized and rightfully so for not having the life skills needed for success. This week proved that in Southeast Baltimore County at least we have some kids who can be counted on even when the chips are down. North Point Village be proud. Be very proud! Sometimes in life you may tie or lose but in the big moments you know you can be counted on!
