Opening Day from Memorial Stadium

Since everyone and their mother will write blogs about the Oriole games day in and day out this year, I will be bring back memories of the 1983 World Series Champs. I will give you a look at each game as they are played in sequence with the 2008 Orioles. Yes folks… 25 years have passed since the Birds made the big show.

So here we go.

Game 1: Memorial Stadium, Baltimore. April 4,1983. Kansas City Royals vs Baltimore Orioles.

Final score: Kansas City 7, Baltimore 2.

Both teams scored a single run in the first inning. The Royals added two in the third on a George Brett 2 run homer off Dennis Martinez. Kansas City jacked two more homers in the game to hand the Orioles an Opening Day loss.

Batting Hero: George Brett 2-4 HR 2 RBI 3 Runs Scored.
Pitching Hero: Larry Gura 7 IP 5 Hits 1 ER 2BB 3 K

Misc Items: Cal Ripken and Dan Ford both had doubles in the game as well as committing an error. Cal and Eddie Murray plated both the Orioles’ runs. The Birds yielded 3 unearned runs, walked 4 and struck out 8. Willie Wilson had three hits and stole a base.
The game was played in 2:39 and the attendance was 51,889.
