Yep, you can tell it’s opening day of the baseball season in Baltimore. Everyone is all hyped up, the field is ready, the vendors are ready, the fans (maybe 39,000 of them) are ready, and the weather is ……..well, it’s raining!
I have never been to an opening day game. I used to have a 13 game plan and had opening “night” tickets. Opening day was normally sold out weeks before the season started. Now, I hear there are thousands of tickets remaining for todays game. That tells you something doesn’t it?
I want the Orioles to win more than anyone, but I am not sporting the Orange /Black colored glasses. They are not going to win 60 games with the cast of characters they have assembled this season and anyone who thinks they’ll be exciting to watch is fooling themselves. No matter how you feel, the bottom line will be the same as it has for the last 10 years. No playoffs.
Andy McPhail has made more progress in 8 months than Mike Flanagan had made in 4 years. It will be interesting to see how he continues to build the team from the ground up. Speaking of Flanny, where is HE?
OK, I know a lot of you live for the baseball season so I am not going to put a damper on your excitement, at least not today.
