Tonight the Orioles look to rebound after losing the series to the Yankees this past weekend. This will be the O’s last home stand before the All-Star Break as they take on the Texas Rangers.
Since sweeping the Yankees at home, the Orioles are on a slump, having dropped their last four out of six games during the road trip and falling back four and a half games from first place Boston.
“We gotta play better baseball and that’s where it starts,” Adam Jones said, in post-game comments after avoiding a sweep in New York on Sunday.
Jones, hit a clutch two-run home run to left-center field against the “Sandman” (Mariano Rivera) in the bottom of the ninth with one out and Nick Markakis on first.
Jones, who will be a starter in this year’s All-Star Game, was happy to avoid the sweep, but disappointed in the road trip as a whole.
Scott Feldman will be making his second start as an Oriole tonight as his looks for his first win as an Oriole.
Feldman had a no decision in his Orioles debut against the White Sox as he pitched six solid innings, allowing two earned runs, but marking up six strikeouts.
He will be taking on his former teammate, Derek Holland (6-4). Both Feldman and Holland were teammates when playing in Texas.
Holland has had success in the past against the Orioles, having a record of 3-1 with 24 strikeouts in five games.
The Orioles will be sending four players to the All-Star Game at Citi Field in New York on Tuesday, July 16. The three Orioles will be starters: First baseman Chris Davis, shortstop J.J. Hardy, center fielder Adam Jones, and third baseman Manny Machado will serve as a reserve.
The Rangers will be sending two of its players. The team will send closer and future hall of famer, Joe Nathan and right fielder Nelson Cruz who will serve as a reserve.
Both teams look to finish strong before the All-Star Break and gain momentum going into the second half of the season with each team fighting for first place in their division.
Baltimore 25-17 at home this season, looks to continue their success tonight. However, Texas 24-18 on the road this season, also look to continue their success on the road.
