It didn’t take O’s GM Andy MacPhail very long to start refurbishing the team’s bullpen.
The Birds plucked RHP Armando Gabino off of waivers from the Minnesota Twins yesterday.
Gabino, 26, fits in perfectly with the O’s “rebuilding plan” and was decent-enough in two outings with the Twins in 2009. He pitched a total of 3.2 innings and did not allow a grand slam. He was 6-4 with Triple A Rochester a year ago, proving he’s a guy who can win games in professional baseball.
Let’s all remember that we’d never heard of Jeremy Guthrie when the O’s stole him from the Indians a few years back. These are precisely the kind of signings a team needs to make to not only bring in young talent — but to do it under the radar screen. If Gabino turns out to be as good as Guthrie has been, and my guess is, he will, then we’ll all be thrilled with MacPhail’s move.
Let the fleecing continue. Andy does it better than anyone.
