O’s Today: Gettin’ “Eaton Up” on the mound…

March 23, 2009 | Drew Forrester

Another day in Ft. Lauderdale, another bad day on the mound for a couple of O’s hurlers.

What’s new, you say?

Today, it was Adam Eaton’s turn to get whacked around, as he allowed 8 hits and 4 earned runs in four innings of work.  He allowed three home runs in one inning.  You read that right.

Afterwards, Dave Trembley — forced to say SOMETHING positive — commented that a few of the hits (the long ones, I suppose) were “wind-aided”.  You gotta hate when that wind blows out just as you groove a strike, eh?

Jeremy Guthrie got some work in for the O’s and he wasn’t very good, either.  “Guts” allowed 4 earned runs and walked 3 in 3.2 innings.  Maybe that $120,000 pay-cut was on his mind.

The good news?  The O’s don’t play the Yankees and the Red Sox EVERY game in ’09.

This is getting to be funny, almost.

Their best Grapefruit League pitcher, Brad Bergesen, was just sent to AAA Norfolk over the weekend.

Meanwhile, Adam Eaton looked in mid-season form today.

Damn wind.
