Pittsburgh a MUST win Next Week

September 26, 2010 | Marty Mossa

I’ll use the old phrase a win is a win is a win, but if this Ravens team wants to go anywhere this season they must play better than they did today.  The Ravens escaped their home opener against Cleveland 24-17.  Meanwhile the Steelers (3-0) destroyed Tampa Bay 38-13.  Next week’s match up against the Steelers is a MUST win game.

If the Ravens beat the Rothersburgerless Steelers, they will both be 3-1.  But if Charlie Batch and the Steelers win next week, we would fall two games behind the Steelers; three if you look at the head to head competition.  The Ravens must play far better than they have the last three games.  They are primed for a breakout game.  Seeing that the offense and defense haven’t gelled together yet they are still 2-1.  This team could easily be 3-0, 0-3, 2-1, or 1-2.  If the D plays like they did in week one and two, and the O plays like they did today, then next week we’ll be fine.  Otherwise a lose against the Steelers next week and we could be in for a long season.

A few weeks ago I wrote a piece called Super Bowl or Bust.  Well we need to concentrate on winning and forget about a Super bowl right now.
