Ravens and Baseball

September 17, 2007 |

While I’m sure a lot of you held your breath through the final drive, the fact of the matter is games like this happen all the time in the NFL. Arizona coughed up a 17 point lead today only to win at the buzzer. Every season there are going to be wins of which you’re not overly proud. This might be one of those. But quite frankly, when it week thirteen, many people will hardly remember how close this came to being a disaster. You know why? Because it didn’t end up being a disaster. A win is a win. Hey, look at Denver. They kicked a field goal on the last play to beat Buffalo last week 15-14, and they won today 23-20 only after Janikowski hit the upright on an overtime field goal that obviously would have won it. But when you pick up the paper tomorrow, Denver will still be 2-0, and nobody is better than that. A win is a win is a win.

Now, onto my quick basbeall topic. Boston hosted the Yankees this weekend and had to win one of three to basically clinch the division. They did. The Mets hosted the Phillies this weekend and had to win one of three to basically clinch the division. They didn’t. Starting tonight, Cleveland hosts a red hot Detroit team, and the Tribe only needs to win one of three to basically clinch the division. Let’s see how they do.

Oh, one more thing. That 3-1 I gave you today. You remember: BIlls +10 (loser), Packers +2 1/2 (winner), Packer/Giants over 38 (winner), and Raiders +10 (winner). Anyway, don’t mention it.
