Ravens Pre-season

September 02, 2011 | Derek Halford

Pre-season record -  3-1

Biggest Surprise – Pernell Mcphee – forced fumbles and was in the backfield most plays disturbing the play

Biggest Disappointments – Michael Oher,Torrey Smith – The Ravens were forced to sign Bryant Mckinnie since Oher could still not do well at the LT position. Smith made no big plays and had a few dropped passes.

New Impact Player – Paul Kruger – showed that he is going to be a great pass rusher opposite of Suggs

Position Battles -

Backup QB – I think that if Tyrod Taylor can recover from his injury quickly that the Ravens will keep him as the 2nd QB

3rd RB – Matt Lawrence got knocked out with injury. Damien Berry showed some potential but not enough. Jalen Parmele had an average pre-season but couldnt lockup a spot like previous years by getting a kick return spot. Anthony Allen showed both speed and power. He only had 1 bad play which was when he dropped that 1 pass late in the game vs. the Redskins. I think Anthony Allen will be the 3rd RB

6th WR – Marcus Smith did not show much this pre-season. James Hardy was injured all pre-season until the last game. Brandon Jones had the game winning TD catch vs. the Redskins. Laquan Williams showed his playmaking abilities during his kick returns and punt returns. I believe that Laquan Williams will get the spot over Brandon Jones because of his playmaking abilities.

LBs – I believe that Josh Bynes and Jason Phillips will be the odd men out.

CBs – I think that Jimmy Smith and Cary Williams will be the starting corners. Foxworth is not himself after coming back from injury. Carr and Webb will be the 2nd string CBs. I think Chykie Brown made the roster with that pick 6 last night and the Ravens spent a 5th round pick on him so I think they can find a special teams spot for him.

SS – I was rooting for Tom Zbikowski but I believe that Bernard Pollard outplayed him so Pollard will be the starter next to Ed Reed.

I believe with this farely easy Ravens schedule that they could potentially finish 14-2. But it would probably be more accurate if i bumped it down to 13-3 or 12-4.

How do you guys think these position battles will go? How do you think the Ravens year will go? Do you think that the Ravens will beat the Steelers week 1?
