Ravens Prove So-Called “EXPERTS” Wrong …..

January 11, 2010 |

As a fan, you entered yesterday’s game with a feeling of “not much to lose,” right?

The New England Patriots were predicted to march onto the Gillette Stadium Field and place their 3 Lombardi Trophies on the 50 yard line, while making the stoic statement “YOU WANT SOME OF THIS?” to a much less-heralded Baltimore Ravens team.

Forget Rex Ryan ….. everybody else in the football world was kissing Bill Belichick’s rings at around noon Sunday.

And, when I say everybody, I mean EVERYBODY …..

Did you watch any of the NFL studio programs over the weekend? You know, those shows featuring former NFL players and coaches who’ve lived the game and have a “GREAT FEEL” for what’s gonna unfold on the field. These guys …..

It feels good when the Ravens win. But, damn, it feels GREAT when the world thinks “Baltimore” doesn’t have a real chance of mattering. Sure, Tedy Bruschi and Rodney Harrison have some heartstrings that just won’t let go – regardless of how hard they pull. Aside from the occasional backhanded slap, Bruschi and Harrison have been reluctant to ever utter these words when the studio camera is focused on them ….. “uh, the Patriots are no longer THE PATRIOTS.”

To be honest, I’m giving these two guys a pass. It’s their first season away from the nipple ….. and Coach Bill undoubtedly has their direct contact information. Harrison and Bruschi will probably get better and more legitimate in time.

But, there is hardly any excuse for Tony Dungy – he picks any team in BLUE.

And, Bill Cowher has absolutely no credibility. In fact, I’m pretty sure when he was asked for his pregame prediction between the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens, ‘ole Bill hesitated and finally said, “I think the Pittsburgh Steelers would beat either of these teams.”

To be honest, I can’t lay this keyboard-lashing directly on former players. After all, a collection of EXPERTS – you know, those smart alec’s who boast of their “crystal ball brains” are heaped in the same boat with Bruschi, Harrison and Cowher.

Uh-huh, these guys ….

Skip Bayless spent the last 7 days trying to french kiss anyone with the initials T.B. – and Chris Berman absolutely saluted those LOMBARDI TROPHIES sitting in the glass cabinet, at Gillette Stadium’s lobby. Guess what, Chris ??? There won’t be a 4th trophy hitting the collection, this year !!!!

Okay, in full disclosure, myself and a few other WNST brethren predicted the Ravens would lose the game. However, I’d really like to think our opinions, while sorrowful, were based on what we’ve seen from the Ravens during the last three months. The above pictured dudes just love Tom Brady and Touchdowns …..

Does this win get sweeter? Hell, YES !!!!

During Saturday evening’s coverage, NBC bigwig, Bob Costas, all but made the New York Jets travel arrangements for next weekend – as he alleged the Jets would most likely visit Indianapolis for their next game, UNLESS the “small chance” of Baltimore beating New England occurred. I suppose SMALL CHANCES really do matter.

Please, Bill ….. please pick the COLTS, next week.
