The NHL version of March Madness begins Wednesday Night as April/May/June madness. The quest for Lord Stanley’s Cup features some interesting match ups. As pro sports’ most competitive and exciting tournament begins; there are seven teams that finished the regular season over 100 points. Any number of teams could legitimately skate around the ice with the cup on the last night of the season.
The Eastern Conference first round will have Atlantic Division and President Trophy winning Boston Bruins playing the number 2 wildcard team the Detroit Redwings. Metropolitan Division Pittsburgh will play the #1 wildcard team Columbus Bluejackets. Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers will play each other, as well as the Tampa Bay Lightning and Montreal Canadians.
In the Western Conference: The number one seed Anaheim Ducks will play the Dallas Star, Kings vs. Sharks, Avalanche vs Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues vs. Chicago Blackhawks.
For all it’s worth, my 1st round predictions:
Bruins in 7
Habs in 6
Pittsburgh in 4
Rangers in 7
Ducks in 5
Kings in 6
Wild in 5
Hawks in 5
