After allowing a solo home run to Hal McRae in the second inning, Mike Flanagan would not allow another run in a 11-1 rout of the Royals.
The Orioles pounded out 14 hits against three Royal pitchers. The Orioles had 5 players with two or more hits (Bumbry, Ford, Ripken,Lowenstein and Dauer). Al Bumbry scored 4 times and John Lowenstein drove in three.
The top three hitters in the lineup (Bumbry, Ford and Ripken) went a combine 6-13 with 5 runs scored and 3 RBI. The only two Oriole starters not to get a hit in the game were Rick Dempsey and Ken Singleton.
After scoring single runs in the second, third and fourth innings, the Orioles added two in the fifth, one in the sixth and five more in the seventh to blow out the Royals.
Side notes: Dauer had 2 doubles. Tim Stoddard pitched the ninth inning. Al Bumbry had the only steal of the game. Time of game 2:47. Attendance 7,904.
