Spring is definitely here. Opening day is just around the corner, The Masters is a couple of weeks away and plans are now in place for our 5th annual WNST Charity Golf Outing. Yep, spring is here.
I invite all of you to join me for a great day of golf, fun and friendship on Thursday, May 22 at Mountain Branch in Fallston. Our 2008 event will benefit a wonderful local charity, which has become a staple of our annual tournament. This year, we will be donating all proceeds from the event to the Casey Cares Foundation (www.caseycaresfoundation.org), a Baltimore based organization that assists critically ill children and their families.
Any of you who attended our 2007 event to honor Maryvale’s Erinn McCarthy will always remember that day. Over the years, we’ve raised money for the ALS Association of Maryland (to assist their in-home nursing program), the Packard Center at Johns Hopkins Hospital and, last year, all the monies raised went to Maryvale Prep in honor of Erinn. Those who couldn’t play in the event helped us by participating in “Eagles for Erinn” during Masters week and we raised enough money to provide Maryvale with a beautiful bronze Eagle statue in Erinn’s memory.
This year, we’re going to give our non-golfing listeners another chance to help with our Casey Cares fund-raiser by joining us during Masters week for “Care for Casey”. Paul Casey is an outstanding English golfer who will be playing at Augusta April 10-13 and during Masters week we’ll take pledges based on how many birdies Casey makes during the Masters. We’ll donate all of those funds to Casey Cares, in addition to all the money we raise at the golf outing.
My thanks to the great people at the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship, who will provide everyone who plays in our charity golf outing with one free ticket to their 2008 event at Baltimore Country Club (Oct.9-12).
You can find all the details for this year’s WNST Charity Golf Outing at the link to the right of this blog. We already have 9 teams registered, so please get your foursomes together today and get ready for a great day of golf on May 22.
Also, we’re going to add a little bit more fun this year. I’ll play three of you in a one-hole “one-club” match…you pick the iron I use and I’ll play the 18th hole at Mountain Branch with one-club (that you choose). You’ll play the hole with your entire arsenal of clubs. You, with all of your clubs…vs. me, with one club (and a putter). We’ll make a small wager on that one-hole match – with all proceeds going to Casey Cares Foundation.
I look forward to having our best ever event on May 22. Any of you who were there last May for our Erinn McCarthy benefit will probably agree with me when I say “topping the 2007 outing will be very tough”…it was a phenomenal day. In Erinn’s spirit, though, we will all gather once again at Mountain Branch and try to assist another great local friend – the Casey Cares Foundation.
By the way, Casey Baynes, who runs the Casey Cares Foundation, will be in studio with me today (Thursday) to tell us all about the Casey Cares Foundation.
I look forward to seeing all of you on May 22. If you can’t play that day, help us out with our “Care for Casey” fund-raiser during Masters week.
