Let me first say that I understand that this is a sports blog on a sports website. However, since this is the voice of so many of us, I feel obligated to pause, and reflect on this, our Veteran’s Day.
My father, is a Vietnam vet. He served two tours and by the grace of God, has lived to tell his tale. My father is the reason I am the man that I am today. Even as I approach 34, I have no problem letting people know that my father is my hero. My older brother served in the Navy. He has since become a fire fighter. My grandfather, God rest his soul, was in the Pacific for four years in WWII. He was on the USS West Virginia on December 7, 1941. I never met a tougher SOB in my life then my grandfather, except my dad, maybe. My grandmother was in the Navy during WWII. My family’s military history for this great country stretches all the way back to the French and Indian War, which some know was a pre-cursor to our American Revolution. I chose law enforcement over the military, but that’s because my dad was a cop. Followed his foot steps. So it is with honor and respect, that I say Thank You! to all of our American veterans, both past and present. Without them, there would be no “Paul from Towson.” There would be no WNST, or any of the things we Americans take for granted each and every day. It is because of these brave men and women, who still fight the good fight today, that we are a free nation. For over 200 years, these brave men and women have fought and died to ensure that my children, and my children’s children, will be afforded the same rights and freedoms that I have enjoyed.
So today, our Veteran’s Day, take a moment to stop, and thank a veteran. Thank them for their service, their honor, and their duty, as I have done with my father and my father in law. Because without them…there is no US!
May God bless our veterans, and may He also continue to bless, the United States of America.
