Thanks Caps…it’s a long way to July

April 29, 2010 | Paul Hoke

As soon as the final horn sounded on the Washington Capitals 2009-2010 season, a terrifying thought came to my mind.  Forget about the fact that the Caps squandered one of the best regular seasons in recent NHL history, and a 3 games to 1 lead.  Forget about the fact that Alexander Semin couldn’t score on my grandmother, and she’s been dead for 26 years.  The harsh reality of the Capitals being eliminated by the Montreal Canadiens last night, is that…I have nothing in sports to cheer for, until late July.

If the Capitals had only managed to stay in the Stanley Cup playoffs for another series or two, or God forbid made it all the way to the finals, at least the gap would have been bridged between the end of the Capitals and the beginning of the Ravens’ training camp.  But nooooooo.  They had to go and squander a 3 games to 1 lead to the eighth seeded Canadiens of posting a 50+ win season.  How selfish can one organization be?  Now I have to watch American Idol with my wife for the next month.  Thanks a lot Caps.  I hope you’re happy Ovie.  Instead of watching you score two against Philthy in the second round of the playoffs, I have to grit my teeth while Ellen DeGeneres makes yet another stupid “joke” while “judging” these goofs.  Does anybody else hate her as much as I do?  And if any of you out there says, “hey, we still have the Orioles”, I’m going to hunt you down a curb stomp you.

Look, I don’t have the energy to recount the Montreal series at this point, nor does anyone out there wanna hear my take on it.  All I wanted to do is come on here today, with all due respect to the Baltimore Mariners and the pathetic 4-17 Orioles, and thank the Caps for choking yet another spring away.  And leaving me empty, until our boys in purple fire it up again.  It’s times like this when I hate being a sports fan.  I need a drink.

Go Ravens!!!!

And for the record, I’m rooting for Big Mike.
