The Lady is a Champ and Rich Hill

The Preakness had everything you want in a race. Rachel Alexandra started out fast and took an early lead. She led for most of the race and proved she could run with and beat the boys. Mine That Bird fought his way through traffic trying to catch her. He was closing fast but couldn’t make up enough ground by the finish.

This was the type of finish horse racing needed. They both looked like the “Real Deal” and their stories have perked the interest of casual fans. Here’s hoping we have a rematch in the Belmont. Even though we won’t have a Triple Crown winner again, America will watch another battle of the sexes to see who the better horse is.

Welcome back to the big leagues Rich Hill! I liked the parts of the game I heard and saw. You threw strikes, kept the ball down, and had movement on your pitches. You induced two double play ground balls. You looked the part of a major league pitcher. I hope the rest of the season goes as well as your debut in a Baltimore uniform. Here are Hill’s stat line: 5 2/3 IP, 7-H, 6-K, 2-BB, 2-ER.

The Orioles finally won a game when they scored three or fewer runs. The bullpen looked good not allowing a hit for 3-1/3 scoreless innings. George Sherrill was aggressive in the ninth and went after the hitters. He has looked impressive in his last few outings.

Former Oriole Chris Richard hit 2 grand slams in one game fot the AAA Durham Bulls Friday night. He is the first Internatinal League player to accomplish this feat in over 50 years.
