ESPN around Christmas time always plugs its college football bowl coverage with the tag line “the most wonderful time of the year.”  Wrong!

The best time of the year is today through Sunday because there is nothing better than March Madness.  As I write this, American is taking Villanova to the woodshed.  My perfect 8-0 pool is about to turn into a puddle.  Clemson, whom I have going to the Elite Eight, is getting hammered, and Villanova is one of my Final Four teams.  UNC, Missouri, and Louisville are my others, and they could be gone by 10:00 p.m.

That is what makes this so great.  It’s the only sport where David can truly tame Goliath.  Where the little guy actually has a chance and often seizes it.  Unlike those silly bowl games, these actually mean something, and a true champion is crowned.  So sit back and enjoy it.  Take some beverages, find that comfortable chair and relax.  I will.
