Last year, the Ravens started the year with a 53 man roster that had 3 special teams players, 27 defensive players and 23 offensive players. This year I think they start with a more balanced group of 25 defense and 25 offense.
3 Special teams players
K Billy Cundiff , P Sam Kock, Long Snapper Morgan Cox
25 Defensive players, broken down into 3 categories, Defensive line(7 ), Linebackers(9) and Secondary(9)
Defensive Line (7)
Haloti Ngata, Terrance Cody, Cory Redding, Arthur Jones, Brandon Mckinney, Lamar Divens and Pernell McPhee.
Terrell Suggs, Ray Lewis, Jameel MaClain, Jarret Johnson, Paul Krueger, Danelle Ellerbee, Tavares Gooden, Sam Kindle, Brendon Ayanbadejo.
Jimmy Smith, Cary Williams, Bernard Pollard, Ed Reed, Dominique Foxworth, Ladarius Webb, Tom Zibakowski, Haruki Nakamura, Chris Carr.
25 Offensive Players broken down into 5 categories, Quarterback(3), Running Backs(5), Tight Ends(3), Wide Receivers(5), and Offensive Line(9)
Quaterbacks(3) Joe Flacco, Tyrod Taylor and a quarterback that is currently on somebody else’s roster, excluding Troy Smith and Kyle Boller.
Running Backs(5) Ray Rice, Vonta Leach, Ricky Williams, Jalen Parmalee and Anthony Allen
Tight Ends(3) Ed Dickson, Dennis Pitta and Davon Drew
Wide Recievers(5) Anquan Boldin, Lee Evans, Torrey Smtih, Tanden Doss, David Reed
Offensive Line(9) Michael Oher, Ben Grubbs, Matt Birk, Marshal Yanda, Jah Reid, Oniel Cousins, Bryan Mattison, Jason Murphy, Mark LeVoir
I think if this is not accurate it is with respect to the Ravens keeping a 6th wide receiver is Maryland Terrapins rookie LaQuan Williams. I think he has played well enough to earn a roster spot. As with anything with a fixed number, if you want this guy on the roster, who do you take off? That would either be the 5th running back of the 9th offensive lineman, Jason Murphy. I just think it’s difficult to go into week one against the Steelers, preparing for another tough slugfest, with 6 WR’s and 8 Offensive Lineman. Doesn’t seem like that’s gonna happen.
Overall, I really like this roster. I think this is the best, I repeat, the best wide receiver core the Ravens have ever had. I think this has the chance to be the best defensive line in the league. More often than not I am watching Arthur Jones and Pernelll McPhee play as if they are unblockable. I think our CB group is one of the best the Ravens have ever had. I think our defense will be top 5, again, with a chance to finish in the top 3. And I hope, I really hope, that Joe Flacco can step up and become an elite second tier quarterback in the league.
