Tillman in, Hill out? That’s what it looks like…

July 23, 2009 | Drew Forrester

My orange “bird in a tree” says the O’s are going to part ways with Rich Hill sometime over the weekend (barring any injury to another pitcher), paving the way for Chris Tillman to join the club for next week’s series against the KC Royals — as I first reported last week on the air and again on Tuesday at WNST.net.

It’s looking more and more like Tillman’s debut will come on Tuesday night, which means he’d miss the Red Sox in Baltimore for his second start.  Instead, he’d open the series in Detroit the following Monday.

Tillman pitched Thursday night for Triple-A Norfolk, so Tuesday is his normal day to throw.

Jason Berken will likely remain in the rotation and start on Monday night vs. Kansas City.

The only other thing that could possibly save Rich Hill from being DFA’d is if the team trades veteran Mark Hendrickson over the weekend.  That would leave the club without a left-hander in the bullpen other than closer George Sherrill.

It’s nearly Chris Tillman time.

Let’s hope it goes well.

The cavalry is on the way.
