Time To End The Streak

If Baltimore has a sports inferiority complex to Pittsburgh, there’s good reason.  Baltimore sports teams are collectively 0-6 against Pittsburgh teams in the post season.

The Pittsburgh nightmare started in 1971.  The Baltimore Orioles had a 2-0 lead in the World Series.  They ended up losing to the Pirates 4-3.  And then of course we can’t forget the “we are family” Pirates of 1979.  The Orioles had a 3-1 lead in that World Series.  We all (or most of us) remember the O’s choking in seven games.

In 1975 the Baltimore Colts lost to the Steelers in the first round of the playoffs 28-10.  One year later the Steelers came into Memorial Stadium and embarrassed the Colts 40-14.  In during the 2001 season, the Ravens lost to the Steelers 27-10 at Heinz Field during the divisional round.  And then finally during the 2008 season, the Steelers beat the Ravens 23-14 in the AFC Title Game.  Pittsburgh 6, Baltimore 0.

A win in “steel” town will all but make up for this incredible dry spell.
