Tonight- Athletes and Activism

May 22, 2008 |

Last night on the show, a caller asked Andrew and I whether we thought athletes should be vocal in their support for social and political issues.   Here is a link to a piece about the issue involving Lebron James.

It was a great question and a fascinating topic.

Andrew and I both agree that it’s best if athletes DON’T get involved in this stuff. Why? For the same reasons we don’t want to hear from Sean Penn, Warren Beatty, Clint Eastwood, Tom Selleck, Jeanine Garafalo or the Dixie Chicks, you’re only involved because it FEEDS YOUR EGO!

Or because somehow you suffer some guilt thing.

Let actors act and athletes play sports.

If you want to quietly support a cause or, after your career, get involved- fine.

Tonight on the show we’re going to tackle this topic and, hopefully, in the next few days we’ll get some guests on to talk about this as well.

What’s your opinion?
