Tonight’s Orioles – Red Sox Lineups

April 17, 2009 |

Tonight the Orioles will be taking on the Boston Red Sox in the first meeting of a four game weekend series at Fenway Park, with first pitch set for 7:10PM.

Since 1997 the O’s have taken just one season series against Boston (’04) and have an abysmal 15-39 record against their division rivals in the last three years.

However, this year has brought new hope and the teams have flipped scripts, so far.  After taking their first three series’, the O’s come in at 6-3, while the Red Sox have limped to a 3-6 record to begin their season.

O’s manager Dave Trembley will trot staff ace Jeremy Guthrie (2-0) out to make his third start of the young season.  He has pitched six solid innings and has held opponents to a .261 average in both his first two outings, while picking up wins over the Yankees and the Rays.  In four starts against Boston last season, Guthrie went 1-2 with a no-decision.

On the mound for the Sox will be veteran right-hander Brad Penny, who signed with Boston this past off-season.  He got his Bean-town career off on the right foot when he scattered five hits and three runs over six innings last week in Anaheim in a W over the Angels.  The ex- Marlin and Dodger will be making his first career start against the Orioles this evening.
