After a dismal 5-13 regular season in the CAA, Towson basketball got a much-needed shot in the arm on Friday night with a 73-62 win over Drexel in the tournament opener in Richmond, VA.
The Tigers (#11 seed) move on to battle #3 Northeastern tonight at 8:30pm.
Last night, the Tigers jumped out to an unheard-of first half lead of 30-9 and led at the intermission, 39-14 over Drexel, a team that went 10-8 in regular season CAA play and a two-time winner of Towson in ’08-09.
Although the Dragons outscored Towson by 14 in the second half, the game was never in doubt in the final 20 minutes and for the third year in a row under Pat Kennedy, the black and gold advanced past the first round of tournament play.
Tonight, it’s a tough Northeastern team that provides the next challenge for Pat’s Cats. The Tigers lost at Northeastern during the regular season in their only meeting of the campaign.
