Where Have All The Horse Players Gone?

March 24, 2008 | Gary Quill

At the tender age of 50, I’m looked upon as a “youngster” when I visit any thoroughbred horse racing track. This fact bothers me because like the majority of its elderly patrons, the horse racing industry might die sooner than later. Well, I’m not about to sit on my hands waiting for that to happen… not in my lifetime!
Here’s a challenge. I want to hear from you! Whether you are or are not a horse racing fan, I want to know WHY?
If you play the ponies… that’s great. This Blog’s for you! It will feature my selections and analysis of races, handicapping angles and most importantly, your comments.
On the other hand, if you are among the vast majority of sports fans that have zero interest in horse racing, I have one question, “Why not?” Is it that you just don’t get it? That it takes too much effort or time? Please don’t tell me, “I don’t bet”. If you are into NASCAR, UFC, Fantasy whatever or filled out an NCAA March Madness bracket… you bet! Let’s face it; if you didn’t have money riding on any of these sporting events, you’d have little to no interest in them. So what’s your real excuse for passing on thoroughbred horse racing?
