Joe Matthews, head women’s basketball coach, will be staying at Towson for at least two more seasons.
Matthews contract was extended this week by the University through the 2011-2012 season the Towerlight’s Andrew Constant reports.
Matthews only won five combined games in his first two seasons at Towson, but has none the less has turned the team into a CAA powerhouse.
Matthews is most notable for coaching the team to its best record in the 2007-2008 season where the team won 22 games, the most the team had ever one in a single season.
The pickup of his contract is certainly the right move considering that he has single handily improved the team form a 3-25 team when he took over to a 22 win team in just seven seasons.
Thanks to Matthews the Tigers women basketball team has become one of the most successful teams on campus.
