Those who showed up in the murky, muggy weather for the Ravens morning practice were treated to a special star sighting !!!!
Midway through the morning’s activities, the crowd’s curiosity piqued when an entourage of sharply dressed gentleman converged on the Ravens secured sideline. It was a gathering of formal dress suits, each a different summery shade, and adorned by dark sunglasses.
My initial reaction was “the Secret Service developed a true sense of fashion” …..
It also appeared that I was the first media member to notice the contingent and I couldn’t help a humorous reaction when I spotted an umbrella, large enough to pitch at the beach, covering the middle of the grouped men.
Suddenly, the flamboyantly attired quartet spread their close circle, and a tall, slender dude emerged. He was not wearing a suit. Nope, no bright colors for him. In fact, he was sporting the casual, hip look. And, he seemed to enjoy the reclusive feel of a floppy “Gilligan” style hat and dark shades.
It was very cloudy today !!!!!
I knew who it was – immediately. Indeed, I just made a SNOOP DOGG sighting. I know he was in concert, at Merriweather, last night. God knows Ray Bachmann reminded me of the show, a dozen times, yesterday afternoon. Along with Ray’s inclusion of Snoop’s tunes during “Limited Access,” I was really up to date on the latest happenings of the D-O-double G.
Heck, I didn’t know celebs with immediate ties to Baltimore were gonna start showing up in Westminster. Where’s the cast from American Idol? Is Adam Lambert gonna watch the cheerleaders practice? Will the guys from Judas Priest be at camp in a couple weeks?
Where is TMZ ….
I’ll be the first to admit the drills of an NFL team, in camp, can get kinda habitual and mundane. But, when Snoop showed up and word spread, the catcalls of “Gin & Juice,” “I got my mind on my money ….” and “hey SNOOP” started. And, nearly every photographer started capturing shots of Snoop and his Group.
I shot a text to Nestor and a few friends. Nestor wanted me to do video, but I forgot my camera. Note To Rex – that won’t happen again. My buddy sent me a text, too – he wanted me to approach Snoop and get photo of us bangin’ fists.
Slight problem …..
He was standing on the SECURE SIDELINE, and I wanna keep my media credentials. It would be just my luck – I cross the line, get my creds revoked, and the Jonas Brothers, Pee Wee Herman or Marlo, from “The Wire” shows up, next week.
And, speaking of banging fists, I wanted to guarantee that I wouldn’t be the guy who inspired the fellas in those brightly colored suits to start earning their money. My head vs. their big hands? No thanks …..
Actually, Snoop kept a pretty low profile and seemed to be truly interested in the practice and drills. Upon the end of the morning session, Snoop and several Ravens players embraced on the field.
They posed for photos, practiced about 48 different versions of a hug/handshake greeting, and the famous rapper even practiced some quick footwork, albeit in running back style. Snoop appeared to really enjoy himself.
Before leaving the field, Snoop stopped at the team’s designated media spot and answered a few questions, along with Ray Lewis. He was very lighthearted, amusing and friendly.
He defined his interest as something really relegated to learning a few enhanced schemes for his youth football team, a passion for which he’s personally invested. Snoop cited his personal relationship with Ray Lewis, as well.
But, Snoop’s most engaging words regarded his comparison of the “Baltimore Ravens and Snoop Dogg.” Are they linked in spirituality? You bet – according to Snoop. He said, “the Ravens got a target on their backs, just like Snoop.” It drew a collective laugh from the crowd of reporters.
Before departing, Snoop took time for the fans waiting behind the ropeline. He signed a few footballs and hats. And, he exchanged some kind, good natured words with children. I was impressed by his inclination to take a few moments for the fans – who OFTEN get overlooked, in such situations.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Keith Allison, a local freelance photographer, who has kindly shared his images with us. I struck up a nice conversation with Keith and he’s happy in availing his work to be shown on WNST.net

It’s been 24 hours since I hung out with Ray and talked sports, concerts, tv shows and Snoop Dogg. I never would’ve thought that I’d be the one to brush up against him. I just wish I was dressed more appropriately …..
I got a sweet, powder blue sport coat !!!!
