NCAA hoops; Watch out for Creighton, Oklahoma State and VCU

March 18, 2014 | Drew Forrester

I still don’t have my bracket finished.

Well, honestly, I haven’t even started it yet.

But I did watch a lot of college basketball over the last couple of months, probably because the Ravens’ season ended earlier than usual and I found myself in need of some sports to follow.

There are some very interesting teams in this tournament; Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Creighton and North Carolina Central, just to name four.  NCC won the MEAC and comes into the tournament with a 20-game winning streak dating back to January 11.  They went 1-1 on the year against the ACC, losing to Maryland and beating NC State.  Who is this year’s version of last year’s Florida Gulf Coast?  It might be North Carolina Central.

The “tried and true” are going to be tough.  I see Duke winning a couple of games, at least, as will Kansas and Michigan State.  I still think Louisville is a decent bet to win it all, and you know, somehow, someway, a Big Ten team will finagle their way into the Final Four.

I’m pulling for Wichita State to run the table and go 40-0 and win the whole darn thing, but I don’t see it happening just because stuff like that almost never happens.

I’d also be excited to see Virginia do well just because it’s been so long since they were a national factor, but I don’t think they can do much more than win 2-3 games before ducking out.

Don’t be surprised if VCU makes some noise.  They always do.

I’ll have my final four posted here tomorrow and I’ll reveal my full bracket on Wednesday’s show so you can see how poorly I’ll do when the games start on Thursday.

By the way, I’m not around this Thursday and Friday; Nestor will be in for me.  He has a significant announcement to make (that’s what HE says…I don’t know what it is but if he says it’s significant, it must be) so please tune in.
