College Football— Week Five Preview

October 03, 2009 |

Hey folks, it’s Saturday morning. Are you ready for some College Football. I know I am. My wife is in the hospital after having her gall bladder removed. FUN. I’m a little tired of crosswords, I need the games to begin. I’m not sure I’m even supposed to be on the internet here, and the signal is pretty weak. So this will be a little abbreviated.

TOP  5  Games of the Week

5.       Southern Cal  (3-1)  at   California   (3-1)           8:00

USC only loses when they aren’t expected to be in trouble. They’ll be up for this.

  PICK:      USC    31-21

4.       Auburn   (4-0)   at     Tennessee   (2-2)      7:45      ESPN

This is the game where we find out if Auburn is for real. Even though Tennessee’s offense isn’t very scary, winning in Neyland won’t be easy.

  PICK:     Tennessee  17-14

3.       UCLA    (3-0)   at   Stanford   (3-1)       3:30

Can Jim Harbaugh really keep Stanford in the Pac-10 title race. We’ll see.

PICK:      UCLA   33-27

2.       LSU   (4-0)     at    Georgia    (3-1)       3:30    CBS

Are the LSU Tigers really a top 5 team. They haven’t looked it yet this season. This game would go a long way to validating them. Georgia will have something to say about that.

  PICK:     Georgia   35-24

1.           Oklahoma   (2-1)     at     Miami  (FL)   (2-1)    8:00     ABC

This game would be even bigger if Miami hadn’t laid an egg last week. It still feels like 1987 to me with the Sooners and Hurricanes in a big game. It’s up to Landry Jones to get OU past the Canes and into the Texas game still a title contender.

PICK:     Oklahoma   33-21

                                           LOCAL GAMES

     Clemson   (2-2)   at    Maryland   (1-3)       12:00

This is the Terrapins latest must win game. I’m not picking them until they show me they can win a 1-A game.

  PICK:    Clemson  27-13

      Air Force  (3-1)    at    Navy    (2-2)    3:30

Air Force has a quality squad this season and is a threat to Navy’s run of Commander-in-Chief trophies. It will take another spectacular game by Ricky Dobbs to get the Midshipman the home victory.

  PICK:    Navy   28-27

       New Hampshire  (3-0)   at Towson  (1-2)     3:30

Towson will try hard, but will have a tough time against UNH.

Pick:    New Hampshire   31-14

Morgan St.  (2-1)    at   Bethune Cookman  (0-3)    4:00

With a win this could be one of the best starts for Morgan in decades. This is one of their only real chances at a road win. They need to play their best.

PICK:     Morgan St.   19-10

    Johns Hopkins  (3-1)   at Muhlenberg  (1-2)     2:00

This could be the year for the Bluejays to take down the two time defending league champions.

  PICK:     Hopkins    24-20
