More Local College Football notes

      I promised any Morgan State football fans that I wouldn’t forget about their squad after I posted the media preseason polls in the ACC and CAA. The MEAC held their media day yesterday and like with the Terps, it was a mixed bag. Morgan State put 4 players on the all-conference first team, but were only picked to finish 6th out of 8 in league play. Defending champion South Carolina State was the choice to repeat and and their star running back William Ford was tabbed as preseason player of the year.

          Here is the complete forecast.

1.    South Carolina St.

2.    Florida A&M

3.   Hampton

4.  Bethune-Cookman’

5.  Norfolk State

6.  Morgan State

7.  Delaware St.

8.  N. Carolina A&T

 

               The four players that Morgan placed on the first team were:

           RB  Devan James  Sr.   1,337 yds and 8 TD’s in ’08

          OG Robert Norris   Sr.     6’4  315lb   Virginia Tech transfer

          DT  Justin Lawrence  Sr.   8 sacks and 4 forced fumbles in ’08

          CB  Darren McKahn   Jr.     4 INT’s in ’08

TE Jephte Cherenfant, LB Troy Leftwich, and LB George Howard earned second team honors.
