Eagles for Erinn, O’s, Masters

April 05, 2007 | Drew Forrester

We are now at 60 participants in our “Eagle’s For Erinn” effort. And how about these two guys who stepped up to the plate today…Dave in Towson has pledged $25 for every eagle made at the Masters this week – and our friend Brooke Boyle from USA Home Loans has made a $50 per-eagle pledge! Thanks to those of you who called the show or e-mailed to participate with us…all the money raised through this effort will go to purchasing a beautiful Eagle sculpture that we will inscribe and give to Maryvale Prep in honor of Erinn McCarthy, the 14-year old who passed away from cancer back on March 12.

Tough start to the season for O’s catchers. First, Paul Bako gets whacked in the chin on Monday night and then Alberto Castillo is pressed into duty last night in Game 2 after Bako couldn’t answer the bell. And then, predictably, the Twins went nuts and stole 5 bases on the combination of Castillo and Daniel Cabrera. It got so bad last night that I’m pretty certain Bert Blyleven stole a base off Castillo in the 8th inning.

Cabrera pitched well, I thought, except for those two ill-timed walks (5th and 7th inn.) and his fielding gaffe that led to the tying run in the 5th. You just can’t give “extra outs” in the majors and the one Cabrera gave the Twins in the 5th came back to haunt him.

Anyone see Brian Roberts yet? Oh, he’s playing? When’s he gonna make contact?

Tejada sure looks good so far. If you could give out Gold Gloves for two games, he’d have one for his defensive work on Monday and Tuesday.

Here are my top 5 picks for the Masters:

1. Tiger Woods (duh…)
2. Geoff Ogilvy (has as good a chance as anyone except Tiger and Phil)
3. Phil Mickelson (Faldo won three…a win here would give Phil Mick three)
4. Paul Casey (maybe the best of the young Europeans…can he putt the greens?)
5. Stephen Ames (he’s either REALLY hot or REALLY cold…if he’s hot, he can win)

Longshots to watch: Rod Pampling…K.J. Choi…Trevor Immelman

I’m hoping Maryland’s Shay Doron gets picked in today’s WNBA draft. I don’t own a WNBA replica jersey…but I’ll own one tomorrow! Just waitin’ to see where the lovely Ms. Doron winds up, that’s all!

Have a great Wednesday!
