Live from Oakmont CC…

June 15, 2007 | Drew Forrester

Talked my way into something called the “Champions Pavilion” and lo and behold, they have FREE internet and, even better, FREE red wine!

I’m at Oakmont CC for the U.S. Open.  Yeah, it’s in Pittsburgh, which is a slight drawback, but a few minutes ago I saw a guy wearing a Steelers shirt slip down a muddy grass hill…I was the only one who let out a laugh.  lol

I’m not allowed to have my cell phone on the premises, but don’t tell anyone — I snuck it under my belt.  I have a 33-week pregnant wife, so I think I SHOULD be allowed to have a phone, right?

I was planning on calling Rob Long this afternoon, but I haven’t found a safe place yet.  Maybe I’ll duck behind some trees and call Michael Popovec’s show later on.  We’ll see.

My pick to win the golf tournament – Retief Goosen – shot +6 today.  I just saw him at the practice green working on his putting.  He didn’t make one putt in the four minutes I watched him.  No wonder he shot 76.  Tiger is in good shape at +1.  Some English guy named Nick Dougherty shot 68 and is leading.  Don’t worry, he won’t be there on Sunday.

Back out to the course for a while.  Gonna try and catch Mickelson as he walks past our “Pavilion” in about 10 minutes.

More to come from Oakmont.
