Two Eagles for Erinn…so far

April 06, 2007 | Drew Forrester

Two eagles (I’ve checked twice…don’t think I missed any) today in the first round of the Masters; a “3” at the 13th hole by Rich Beem and a “3” at the 15th by David Howell. So I’m in for $150 ($75 per) for Eagles for Erinn and several other listeners who pledged money based on eagles in today’s first round are also filling the donation coffers for us.

Tiger’s 73 was sort of blemished by the way he finished. It’s one thing to shoot +1 and be in the hunt, which he is, since the leaders are at 3-under par. But to go bogey-bogey at 17 and 18 is NOT the way to wrap up your first round at Augusta. Looked to me like Tiger just couldn’t get the speed of the greens down.

Justin Rose’s 69 was a miracle of sorts considering he only hit 5 of 18 greens and took just 20 putts in round one. He’ll disappear from the leader board tomorrow if he duplicates that kind of erratic ball-striking. I like the way David Toms looked today. Made a couple of long par saving putts and appeared very comfortable on the greens, something he’s admitted has been his Achilles heel at Augusta over the years.

Shocked at Mickelson’s first round play (76), but a cool little 68 on Friday will get him right back in the hunt.

Theme for Friday: LOTS OF EAGLES!! Come on guys!!!

Billy Donovan is staying at Florida? I’m stunned. I thought that was a done deal at Kentucky.

So who gets the UK job now? I wonder………

Dice-K had 10 k’s for the Red Sox in his major league debut today. Watch out. He’s not a fluke.

Talk to you all tomorrow morning.
