Fight for College Hockey Championship Is On

April 05, 2012 | Marty Mossa

The Frozen Four started with sixteen teams, then eight, then four. Now there are only two teams still standing to fight for the title of NCAA college hockey.

The Ferris State University Bulldogs of Michigan beat Union College from Upper State New York. The Bulldogs will move on to the Frozen Four Finals Saturday Night at the Tampa Bay Times Forum at 7pm on ESPN2.

After a scoreless first period, Union made it one to nothing in the 2nd. Ferris tied it up in the 2nd, and scored the game winner with five minutes left in the third period. Ferris then added an empty net goal to lock it up 3-1.

In the other semi-finals game, the Boston College Eagles beat the Minnesota Gophers 6-1. Heavily favored Boston College will play Ferris State Saturday Night at 7pm at the Tampa Times Forum on ESPN2.

SIDE NOTE: Congratulations to the Washington Capitals. After giving their fans quite a scare this season, they have qualified for the NHL playoffs for the 5th year in a row. With one game remaining, they currently have the number 8 spot. They have an outside chance of winning the Southeast Division. If they accomplish that feat, they will jump to the number three spot. In order to win the division, the Caps would have to beat the Eastern Conference regular season winner New York Rangers in New York, and Florida would have to lose outright to Carolina on Saturday.
