It’s the last four (4) horse racing days of the Summer at the Timonium State Fairgrounds. The weather for the Labor Day weekend is supposed to be great, so start it off early today and take in the exciting scenes just off York and Timonium Roads.
Of national interest on Saturday at Saratoga, Preakness and Haskell winning filly Rachel Alexandra will once again take on the boys in the Grade 1 Woodward Stakes which carries a purse of $750k. She’ll take on the likes of Macho Again (2008 Preakness runner-up), Da Tara (2008 Belmont winner) who is coupled with Cool Coal Man; Past the Point (2008 Woodward runner-up to Curlin), Bullsbay (Gr.1 Whitney Hcp. winner), It’s A Bird (Gr.2 Oaklawn Park Hcp. Winner) and Asiatic Boy (runner-up in the Gr.1 Stephen Foster and Gr.2 Suburban Hcp.). I’ll breakdown the race and provide my pick in my Saturday morning blog.
Here are my picks for Friday, September 4th at the fair…
Best Bet: Say Hay Dubaby (#2 – 1st race; M/L 4-1) only win came on the grass, but at this level (NW2L) and distance (1 1/16 mile) on the dirt, should get to the Winners Circle. Half of her foes are 1 for 20-something plus she has faced better competition in the majority of her 8 lifetime outings.
Longshot: Its Your Call (#7 – 2nd race; M/L 15-1) has shown early foot since trainer Franklin Rodriguez has taken over. Considering she’s been going 51/2 – 6 furlongs while backing up, but sprints 4 furlongs today, if she’s quick from the gate she could be first across the wire.
SHOW Parlay Play of the Day: Majestic Melody (#7 – 5th race; M/L 15-1) hit the rail at Laurel in his last race when going 6 furlongs finishing 27 lengths behind the winner. He’s been ITM 20 of 37 lifetime starts generally at this same level ($5k).
Enjoy the remaining 4 days of horse racing at the 2009 Maryland State Fair in Timonium.
