Animal Kingdom drew Post Position #11 and was made the 2-1 Morning Line favorite for the 136th running of the Preakness Stakes. It is race 12 on the Pimlico 13 race card. First Post is 10:45am. Preakness Post Time is scheduled for 6:18pm.
Late afternoon on Wednesday the Post Positions were drawn for Saturday’s 136th running of the Preakness Stakes. A full field of 14 will break from the starting gate for this 1 3/16 mile middle jewel of the Triple Crown. Ironically, the 3 runners from the Derby who are being held in high regard in the Preakness will be loaded side by side by side towards the outside. Mucho Macho Man, 3rd in the Derby got #9 and 6-1 M/L odds as the 3rd choice. Post #10 went to Derby favorite Dialed In, installed as the 9-2 2nd choice with Animal Kingdom taking his spot as #11.

On Wednesday late afternoon, the Post Postion Draw took place in the International Pavilion on the Pimlico Infield. Here’s how they’ll break from the gate, along with Morning Line (M/L) odds and the (GQ) odds that I believe will be closer to the actual Post Time odds…

Recapping Day 26 (Sunday, May 15th) at the Pimlico Spring Meet…
Best Bet Dance Raven Dance (#3 4th race; M/L 8-5); P/T 2-1; P/T 4-5) ran as advertised, setting slowe early pace and had enough left in in the stretch, even with rider losing whip, to win by just over a length paying $3.80 to WIN, $2.60 to PLACE and $2.20 to SHOW.
Best Bet pick scorecard from 26 selections at the Pimlico Meet: 9 WIN – 3 PLACE – 6 SHOW.
Longshot Carson City Dude (#10 9th race M/L 10-1; P/T 25-1) was picked on the assumption that the track would be sloppy or muddy. Well, it never rained a drop on Sunday at Pimlico until about 8pm, 3 horus after this race was run. Needless to say, it was no shock that this “Dude” was off the board.
Longshot pick scorecard from 26 selections at Pimlico Meet: 5 WIN – 5 PLACE – 2 SHOW.
Here’s how the WDYL (Who Do Ya Like?) Plays panned out….
1st race ($2 DD): 4 w/ 1, 4 …came 4-2 (#1 won 2nd race but was DQ’d)
3rd race off turf: #1 – Allow Me (7-5)…WINNER: $4.80 $3.40 $2.10
6th race: #5 - Shea Ballet (7-1)… 4th – best stride too late
7th race: #3 – Brilliant Son (7-2)…SHOWED: $3.20
8th race ($1 DD): 3, 6, 8 w/ 1, 4, 5, 10 ($12)… came 4-11
For the Pimlico Spring Meet, Day 27 (Thursday, May 19th) …
Best Bet: My Misty’s Echo (#3 3rd race OFF the turf; M/L 9-5) is a Main Track Only (MTO) runner, therefore I’m banking on races to be taken OFF the TURF as track management will want to save it for Friday and Saturday turf races. “Misty” lost to the 7-5 M/L favorite in here in her first start since February. She gets a 4 lbs. positive weight shift versus that one and a Pimlico surface that might be kinder to early speed than it was early in the meet. IF Mother Nature is nice and doesn’t dump the anticipated rainfall onto Pimlico, and races remain on the turf, then go with Bailey’s Beach (#2 5th race ON the turf; M/L 2-1). His only other turf start came in a small stakes race. When your turf debut caomes in a stakes race, your connections know you can run on the grass. He ran 6th that day at 36-1. He’s in here for $25k Claiming.
Longshot: Five Star General (#11 7th race M/L 10-1) made first start since mid-January going 6 furlongs, was slow to get going then rallied nicely in the stretch. Most of his previous races were at further distances. So this race may have served as a freshener for a top effort here going 1 1/16 miles. Charlestown jock (Katie Reynolds) makes the trip to Old Hilltop just to ride this one.
Other “Who Do Ya Like” (WDYL) Plays…
1st race ($2 DD): 5, 6, 8 w/ 4, 5
3rd race (if off turf & sloppy track): #9 – Broker’s Risk (30-1)
4th race: #1 – Secret Dab (9-5)
5th race (if ON Turf): $2 Exacta Box 2 (2-1) – 7 (15-1) – 8 (10-1)
6th race: #4 – Joann’s Appeal (9-5) Lone speed?!
8th race ($1 DD): 1, 6, 7 w/ 4, 5
Enjoy a great day of thoroughbred horse racing. Share the fun with a friend.
