Pimlico Day 2: Apprentice riders invade Old Hilltop

April 04, 2013 | Gary Quill

BREAKING NEWS concerning Santa Anita Derby… 5-2 M/L second choice and winner of the San Felipe Stakes, Hear the Ghost, will be scratched from the Saturday’s race and all 3 Triple Crown races due to an injury. Owner Ted Aroney of Halo Farms said Hear the Ghost will be sidelined for about 90 days with what he called “a small injury” to his right front leg.

With this development, read my updated analysis of Saturday’s Wood Memorial and Santa Anita Derby on HorseRacingNation.com.

SHOW Parlay Play of the Day:  $24 on Lindyhop  (#2; 2nd race; 7-2)has been an attractive filly to trainers as she’s been claimed in her last two starts. What makes her “live” today is trainer John “Jerry” Robb reclaimed her from her last outing for $7,500 after losing her for $5,000 tow back. She has “back class and Robb thinks enough of her that she’s in for $10,000 here. With a 3-1 entry going against her, they’ll take the majority of the SHOW pool money which should provide a fair SHOW price.

It’s a beautiful day to go to Opening Day at Old Hilltop. If you have other plans, then make it a point to go on one of the other 34 days. You might actually find yourself having fun.

Good Luck!
