Breeders’ Cup Week: Over 25 Million Reasons To Watch And Wager

Just as young children eagerly await Christmas morning, horse players do the same for Breeders’ Cup. It is the culmination of the racing year, featuring the best thoroughbreds from around the world. For the fifth consecutive year, it will be a two-day event (Friday, Nov. 4th and Saturday, Nov. 5th) with total purses exceeding $25 million. Churchill Downs will be the venue for the 26th annual Breeders’ Cup and will be expanded by one race, from 14 to 15 with the introduction of the $500k Juvenile Sprint.

Day 1 (Friday) will feature six (6) Breeders’ Cup races on a Churchill Downs 10-race card. 1st race Post Time at 2:00pm EDT with the Breeders’ Cup race slated for race 5 through the finale, race 10. Here’s the line-up. All Post Times are listed as Eastern Daylight Time and will be televised on ESPN2 and ESPN3:

 

 5th race (4:10pm): $500k BC Juvenile Sprint – 6 furlongs

 6th race (4:50pm): $1 million Gr. 2 BC Juvenile Fillies Turf – 1 mile on the turf

 7th race (5:30pm): $1 million Gr. 1 BC Filly & Mare Sprint – 7 furlongs

 8th race (6:10pm): $2 million Gr. 1 BC Juvenile Fillies – 1 1/16 mile

 9th race (6:50pm): $2 million Gr. 1 BC Filly & Mare Turf – 1 3/8 mile on the turf

10th race (7:30pm): $2 million Gr. 1 BC Ladies Classic – 1 1/8 mile         

 

 

Day 2 (Saturday) will feature nine (9) Breeders’ Cup races on a Churchill Downs 12-race card. 1st race Post Time at 12:05pm EDT with the Breeders’ Cup race slated for race 3 through the finale, race 11. Here’s the line-up. All Post Times are listed as Eastern Daylight Time with televised coverage spanning three networks, shown to the right of Post Times:

 

 3rd race (1:20pm on TVG): $500k Gr. 2 BC Marathon – 1 3/4 mile

 4th race (2:02pm on ABC): $1 million Gr. 1 BC Juvenile Turf – 1 mile on the turf

 5th race (2:37pm on ABC): $1.5 million Gr. 1 BC Sprint – 6 furlongs

 6th race (3:21pm on ABC): $1 million Gr. 2 BC Turf Sprint – 5 furlongs on the turf

 7th race (4:01pm on ESPN): $1 million Gr. 1 BC Dirt Mile – 1 mile

 8th race (4:45pm on ESPN): $3 million Gr. 1 BC Turf – 1 1/2 mile on the turf

 9th race (5:25pm on ESPN): $2 million Gr. 1 BC Juvenile – 1 1/16 mile

10th race (6:07pm on ESPN): $2 million Gr. 1 BC Mile – 1 mile on the turf

11th race (7:00pm on ESPN): $5 million Gr. 1 BC Classic – 1 1/4 mile

A plethora of wager types will be offered throughout the two-day event as a suddenly popular Pick-5 will make its Breeders’ Cup debut. There will be guaranteed pools for five (5) of the multi-race wagers (Pick-4’s and Pick-6’s). All wager types with betting minimums are as follows…

 

10 Cent Superfecta (all races)

50 Cent Trifecta (all races)

50 Cent Pick-3 (all races) 

50 Cent Pick-4 (Fri. race 3; Fri. race 7 w/ $750k guaranteed)

                         (Sat. race 4 w/ $1 million guaranteed; Sat. race 8 w/ $1.5 million guaranteed)

50 Cent Pick-5 (Fri. and Sat. races 1 thru 5)

$1 Double (all races)

$1 Super Hi-5 (Fri. race 10; Sat. race 11)

$2 Win/Place/Show

$2 Pick-6 (Fri. races 5 thru 10 w/ $750k guaranteed)

                (Sat. races 6 thru 11 w/ $2 million guaranteed)

 

Even if the Pick-4 or Pick-6 wager is not among those you typically play, you may want to think outside the box for Breeders’ Cup races on Friday and Saturday because the payoffs will be ginormous!
