Colonial Downs Cancels Sunday Racing Card Due To Extreme Heat

July 08, 2012 | Gary Quill

Due to extreme heat that is expected to remain in Virginia through the weekend, Colonial Downs has cancelled its Sunday (July 8th) card of thoroughbred horse racing. Races were scheduled for a 12:55pm EDT 1st Post. Racing will resume on Thursday, July 12th. 1st race Post Time will be 7:00pm EDT.

Recapping the selections from Saturday, July 7th had just 4 winners (2 Top Selections; payoffs in BOLD) having $2 WIN pay-offs being $8.20 (2nd race), $6.40 (3rd), $4.80 (6th), and $2.60 (8th). The BEST BET of the Day (17 5-3-1) ran a game 3rd in a field of 7 after being steadied at the start of the 5 1/2 furlong contest, returning $2.80 to SHOW. The LONGSHOT PICK (17 1-3-3) mounted a nice rally, albeit 6 wide around the turn which cost her as she hung late, finishing 4th @ 10-1 just 2 3/4 lengths behind the winner.

Vacation has come at a perfect time after two consecutive sub-par handicapping days. Now is a good time to clear my head of bad habits and return fresh for the final days of the Colonial Downs meet.
